An Unforgettable Evening at The Tasting Room on 9th
For those who appreciate fine wine, expertly curated menus, and intimate dining experiences, The Tasting Room on 9th is a must-visit. I recently had the pleasure of attending a private wine tasting event with only 12 guests, and every aspect of the evening was impeccable. From the warm ambiance to the exquisite pairings, this was a night to remember.

A Setting Made for Savoring
The moment I stepped into The Tasting Room, I knew this would be a special experience. The intimate atmosphere, gorgeous table setting, and attentive service set the perfect stage for an evening of culinary exploration. With only a handful of guests, the event felt exclusive and thoughtfully arranged, allowing us to fully appreciate each course and its accompanying wine selection.

A Thoughtfully Crafted Menu
Each course of the evening was a testament to the chef’s creativity and the sommelier’s expertise. The flavors, textures, and aromas were perfectly orchestrated to enhance the wines, making for an immersive dining experience.

The Opening Notes: Bread & Bubbles
The night began with a simple yet elegant bread course, served alongside a glass of Pierre Gimonnet ‘Cuvée Cuis 1er Cru’ Brut Blanc de Blancs. The crisp, citrusy notes of the champagne provided the perfect introduction, cleansing the palate and setting the tone for what was to come.

Crispy Indulgence: Oysters & Ladoix
Next, we were treated to two golden-fried oysters adorned with truffle aioli and a sprinkle of smoked paprika. The delicate crunch gave way to a rich, briny center, balanced beautifully by the Domaine Nudant Ladoix. The wine’s mineral undertones and subtle fruitiness highlighted the umami depth of the dish.

A Harmony of Flavors: Scallops & Barolo
One of the standout moments of the evening was the seared scallop, perfectly caramelized on the outside while tender and buttery within. It was served atop a silky acorn squash purée, accented with chive oil and spiced pumpkin seeds. The pairing? A 2017 Oddero Barolo ‘Convento’—bold, yet refined, with notes of dark cherry and earthy spice that complemented the dish’s natural sweetness.

Rich & Robust: Duck & Côtes du Rhône
For the main course, we indulged in a beautifully roasted duck breast, enhanced by a velvety duck demi-glace, tart pickled cherries, and a dusting of onion ash. The Domaine de Chateaumar ‘Cuvée Bastien’ Côtes du Rhône was the ideal match, its deep, berry-rich profile cutting through the richness of the duck and adding layers of complexity.

A Sweet Symphony: Olive Oil Cake & Gewürztraminer
To end the night on a bright and refreshing note, we enjoyed a unique olive oil cake accompanied by stone fruit jam and fresh mint. The slight citrus essence of the cake, combined with the vibrant fruitiness of Brooklynites’ Gewürztraminer, made for a delicate yet memorable finish. The wine’s aromatic floral notes and touch of sweetness provided a perfect balance to the dessert’s rich, moist texture.
